From Dust to Destiny

  From a time

before my first breath,

seeking finite manifestation.

Cosmic dust

 destined with

virtue and sin.

Duality Perplexed

From fertile earth and mystic skies.

Soft, brittle ash given a deep soulful breath.

The collective enveloping love of two

 fractals new life.

Concordant Harmony

From conquest

and perseverance,

unbeknownst history,

 a pillaged past.

Spanish and Indigenous intertwined.

Montezuma and Cortés thrive within.

Order from Chaos

From molten fire

and crystal waters.

Scorched passion and seared desire.

Flowing lifeblood

of my ancestors.

The inevitable union of man without Agape,

woman without Dào.

Fate Realized

Analysis

I thought back to my origin and found myself perplexed by how far back I reached. I saw how relevant it was, and stuck with it. This theme of duality lingered and I struggled to organize a cohesive structure. Ultimately I stopped here after 4 drafts.

Clarification:

Agape: the kind of love and action that shows empathy; and wants the best.

Unconditional, never dependent on reciprocity, and given freely in the most challenging times.

Dao: the absolute principle underlying the universe, combining within itself the principles of yin and yang and signifying the way, or code of behavior, that is in harmony with the natural order.

I will connect this poem with the Prog: 2 Assignment by emphasizing:

1. My metaphysical point of view (Duality/Dao)

2. My parents' origin and my relationship with them.

3. Cultural influence via race/language/spirituality
